THOUSAND FOOT KRUTCH

Tulsa had their Rawkfists high in the air when Winter Jam made it’s yearly stop at the BOK Center.  Modern rock band Thousand Foot Krutch was part of this year’s stellar lineup that also included Colton Dixon and headliner Newsboys.  With tickets only $10 at the door the arena was at capacity and music fans were ready to rawk and hear the message that speaker Nick Hall came to deliver.  It was the middle of the festival and right after Nick’s message that the lights went down and the TFK sign started glowing red beneath the drumset.  Deafening screams filled the arena as Thousand Foot Krutch took over the stage and rocked out the supercharged “Let The Sparks Fly” from the band’s new album “The End Is Where We Begin”.  Vocalist Trevor McNevan made his way down the catwalk to be among the fans and about halfway through the song the band slowed it down a bit for the big surprise they had in store for Tulsa.  Trevor made his announcement,  “I’d like to bring out a special guest tonight.  Let me hear a loud Tulsa welcome for my good friend, your very own Carrie Underwood”!  Screams errupted as Carrie who was wearing her Thousand Foot Krutch shirt made her way onto the stage and out onto the catwalk with Trevor to finish singing “Let The Sparks Fly” which is one of Carrie’s favorite TFK songs.  After this surprise performance the band continued rocking out the remainder of their 4 song set which was way too short but it was nice to have Thousand Foot Krutch be a part of this unique festival.   Formed in 1995,  Winter Jam is based on the idea of removing cost barriers so more people can attend, be encouraged by the music and hear the gospel.  The tour has outpaced any other tour’s attendance for the past 3 years according to Pollstar.  Go pick up the new Thousand Foot Krutch album “The End Is Where We Begin” which is the band’s first #1 album!  The band will be playing many of the rock festivals in the states this summer so get your Rawkfists in the air!    Photos & review by Michael Ervin
