SKILLET ROCKS TULSA!

“Who thought Skillet and Third Day would ever tour together” asked Third Day singer Mac Powell when the co-headlinging tour made a stop at the BOK Center in Tulsa.  Presented by Food For The Hungry who help sponsor hungry, less fortunate children all over the world, the tour featured some diverse musical acts that brought out a lot of people who had never seen Skillet before.  The Third Day vocalist told the crowd, “If you’re not a Skillet fan you will be after tonight”!  Soon after the amazing set by Third Day the lights dimmed and video images of Skillet flashed across the video screen while the intro track played.  The moment we had been waiting for had finally arrived as John, Korey, Jen & Seth took the stage and kicked into “Hero” from the multi platinum album “Awake & Alive” that made the band worldwide superstars.  The band rocked right into “Sick Of It” from the new album “Rise” and Korey wielded her guitar high in the air strutting across the stage and banging her head while John made his way down the catwalk with C02 cannons shooting smoke high into the air.  Skillet is one of the most high energy and hardest working bands out there and it was obvious they had won over all the first timers.  Part of the signature Skillet sound are the amazing vocal trade offs between John Cooper and drummer Jen Ledger that were heard during “Not Gonna Die Tonight” and “Awake & Alive”.  The band continued rocking through the set of new and old songs but when John asked the crowd “Do you feel like getting loud – do you feel like getting crazy – do you feel like a Monster?” the place went nuts!  Guitarist Seth Morrison played the opening riff to the band’s breakout single “Monster” and the song was a visual highlight of the evening with more smoke shooting high into the air and monster images flashing across the screen.  The band closed the evening with “Rebirthing” and John told the crowd “thank you for coming Tulsa, we love you”!  If you’ve never witnessed a Skillet concert before catch them on tour this summer.   You won’t be disappointed!     photos & review by Michael Ervin
