nothing more new album review photo ronnie jackson

Nothing More is a hard rock band from Texas looking to prove that there is still hope for rock music and they do JUST THAT with their new self titled release.  Kicking things off is the very ambient “Ocean Floor” with some cool electronics and vocals leading into the killer riff that begins the amazing track “This Is The Time (Ballast)”.  This is a very riff heavy track with amazing lyrics and a great message.  Some powerful vocals here from the amazing Jonny Hawkins, making the listener feel the lyrics!  Next is “Christ Copyright” which shows off the talent of the band as a whole with big pounding drums and a great riff.  “Mr. MTV” is a track that one can only assume is about all of those pop stars who eat up the spotlight and sell out for a few dollars, great track here!  After the head banging anthem “First Punch” which is sure to be a huge radio hit comes an acoustic interlude titled “Gyre”, fitting perfectly into the album making a nice bridge from one song to another and is followed by “The Matthew Effect” which features a great melody and catchy chorus that is sure get stuck in your head!  One of the best songs on the album is “I’ll Be Ok”.  Such an amazing ballad with great lyrics from Hawkins asking,  “How do you love when your heart is broken?  How do you speak when you feel unspoken?”.  This is where the band really shines in every aspect which tells me that they are going to be HUGE.  “Here’s To Heartache” is another amazing song with a chorus that is one to be remembered but the next song, “If I Were” is one of the big standout tracks on the album.  The intro to this song is completely sick.  The riff, the drums, and everything about it only gets more awesome by the chorus!  “Friendly Fire” is a track I could see being a big radio hit for the band and could possibly shoot them straight into the next level!  Next is the electronic interlude titled “Surface Flames” that fades directly into the heavy “Take A Bullet” which honestly reminds me of Sevendust.  Heavy and fun and one that will have the crowd jumping at a live show!  Next is my favorite track on the whole album, “Jenny”.  Everything about this song makes me believe that Nothing More should be greatly recognized In their genre.  This song alone is better than most stuff I hear on the radio today!  “God Went North” closes out the album and is another great one with heavy emotion put into the lyrics and vocals with great music behind it.

Having just signed with Eleven Seven Music and jumping on the Five Finger Death Punch / Volbeat tour this Fall, Nothing More are making huge waves in the rock scene.  This has got to be one of the best albums I have heard in a long time with standout tracks “Jenny”, “This Is The Time (Ballast)”, “I’ll Be Ok” and “First Punch”.  Check out the album and see these guys on tour this summer and fall!      5/5   by David Rader
