MOTLEY CRUE at BOK Center

Pyrotechnics, fireworks, drum rollercoasters, dancing girls, expletives and a hit after hit set list.  All of the ingredients were there in Tulsa at the BOK Center as Motley Crue took the stage for their final tour, but more on that later!  First let’s talk about the beginning of the night and opener Mr. Alice Cooper!  The original horror show MASTER!  Alice still has it, no other way to put it.  His show was less of an opening set and more of a shortened headlining set.  Complete with a 10 foot Frankenstein, real life boa constrictor and plenty of other awesome props!  His set included all of his well-known tunes plus a couple of surprises.  Starting off his set, Alice walked through a shower of sparks raining down from the lighting rig singing “Hello Hooray” while the crowd rose to their feet.  Alice is no stranger to being cheered on by a huge crowd like the one in Tulsa.  He has enjoyed a long and very successful career in music, especially as a live performer and for good reason too!  He made the most of his hour long set treating the fans to hits such as “Feed my Frankenstein”, “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, “I’m Eighteen” and “Schools Out”.  The crowd went NUTS for Feed my Frankenstein.  Alice got shock therapy during that song and turned into a 10 foot Frankenstein roaming the stage like a mad man!  Lastly he sang everyone’s favorite, “Schools Out” with bubbles coming up behind him and his band which had 3 guitarists.  Everyone sounded great and Alice can still out perform almost any newer band out there today!  Now on to the part you’ve been waiting for, Motley Crue!  Crue has had such a hugely successful career and have enjoyed many hit albums and singles throughout their 33 years as a band.  I have been reading other reviews that have been scathing and pointing out all of their flaws.  However, I can say with full confidence that this was one of the best shows I have ever seen!  Kick ass songs and a bad ass production made this one hell of a night.  The band came out in full force to the hit single off of their last album “Saints Of Los Angeles”.  It was really cool to see them open with a  newer track like that which shows they have confidence in their ENTIRE catalog.  Vince sounded better than I have heard in recent years and his stage presence was top notch all night long.  You could tell the band was very happy and humble to be where they are.  Next they tore into the fun and energetic “Wild Side” with Mick Mars ripping into the opening riff with Tommy Lee not far behind to lay down the killer beat to this track and girls came out and did a choreographed dance that fit awesome with the song!  A few songs later came “Shout at the Devil” with Nikki Sixx shooting 10 foot flames from his bass to fit the theme of the song!  Then everyone’s favorite “Dr. Feelgood” came roaring through Mick Mars guitar as the crowd went crazy and sang along to every word of the mega hit.  Nikki told everyone to have a seat and gave a little history lesson on how the band got started and then came Tommy Lee’s drum solo.  This was the most extravagent part of the whole night.  A massive rollercoaster stretched from the back of the stage to the top of the BOK center and out onto the middle floor.  Tommy’s drums were spinning upside down and flipping back and forth while he went on this crazy ride!  The band ended their initial set with “Kick start My Heart” and tons of pyro smoke filled the arena so much that it was hard to even see the band!!  This has to be my favorite song all night!  Lastly the band ended their set perfectly with their hit ballad “Home Sweet Home”.  Performing from a floating stage at the back of the arena the band put their heart and souls into this final performance giving the fans everything they could want plus more.  It’s been one hell of a career for Motley Crue, don’t miss the Final Tour!!!    by David Rader
