MINDSET EVOLUTION

On Friday night the newest concert venue in central Illinois was officially broke in by hometown rockers Mindset Evolution who were the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR festival battle of the bands winner in 2011.  If you have ever seen these guys you know to expect a straight ahead, in your face, high energy rock show.  Singer Rob Ulrich immediately connects with the fans and gets them involved.  Hands and fists were raised and pumping throughout the whole set.  The second song “We Are Stars” really got the crowd jumping and it never stopped except for a one song acoustic version of “Soapbox Jester” with Rob and guitarist Brad Prentice sitting on the monitors at the front of the stage for a little sing along with the fans and then Joey Gibbs re-energized everyone with a thundering drum solo.  With Josh Bodeen’s relentless bass lines and Skyler Baer on guitar book-ending one side of the stage opposite of Prentice, their shows are always energetic and a blast to watch.  Baer and Prentice always seem like they are up to something with cross stage looks and gestures.  They smile as much as the fans do.  If you haven’t heard their cd “Brave, Bold & Broken“, go to Best Buy or iTunes and buy a copy.  It will easily be one of the best music purchases you could make.  For a hard rocking band their songs are very melodic and full of thought provoking lyrics.  Give “The Change” a listen and I think you’ll be hooked.  Watch for these guys and if they are playing anywhere near you, go see them!    photos & review by Michael McMillen
