Lita Ford, the queen of metal, recently played the Stir Cove Concert Series in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lita has been touring relentlessly the last couple of years promoting her killer comeback album “Living Like A Runaway” which I highly recommend. The new album contains a rockin’ remake of the Elton John classic “The Bitch Is Back” which Lita has adopted as the fitting, opening song of her live set. So back to the concert, there was an 80% chance of rain in the forecast but luckily the rain held off until later. With dark ominous clouds over the venue and Accept’s “Balls To The Wall” pumping through the speakers, the metal queen took the stage dressed in black leather with her Stoli Vodka bottle guitar and ripped into “The Bitch Is Back”. It’s so good to see Lita back on the scene rocking with a vengeance and she has assembled an incredible band of musicians to back her up. She has Bobby Rock on drums (you might remember him banging the skins for Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Nelson & Hardline), Mitch Perry on guitar (who has played with Edgar Winter, Cher, Bulletboys and many others) and Marty O’Brien on bass guitar (who has played with Disturbed, Tommy Lee, Kelly Clarkson and many others).
Lita played all of her radio hits (I had forgot just how many there were) including “Hungry” from the 1990 underrated album “Stiletto”, “Back To The Cave”, the monster hit “Kiss Me Deadly” which had the crowd going wild and the even bigger hit and duet with Ozzy Osbourne, “Close My Eyes Forever”. The metal queen played a handful of songs from the new album and told the crowd that the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” soundtrack had just become the number one album in the country featuring the song “Cherry Bomb” by Lita’s first band The Runaways. Lita and her band proudly played a killer rendition of the teenage punk song that had the audience on it’s feet singing right along. Cherry Bomb has become quite the rock anthem in the last several years giving The Runaways some well deserved attention. Lita looked and sounded amazing and proved to the crowd – The Bitch Is Back!
So what’s next for Lita? Well her autobiography titled “Living Like A Runaway” is set for release on November 11th, she is currently playing shows and working on a new album, she is set to play on the Monsters Of Rock cruise in April 2015 and Ace Frehley wants her to guest on his new album of cover songs.
