KINGSHIFTER at The Undercurrent

DOWNIN’ BOOZE AND RAISIN’ HELL!

The new album ROCKS!  Kingshifter “live” rocks even harder!  The band killed it at the Undercurrent recently in Tulsa, OK.  I had never seen Kingshifter perform before and let me tell you, I was blown away.  The band took the stage after midnight and in seconds had the crowd on their feet standing at the edge of the stage.  Lead singer Sprout is a powerhouse.  He’s a big guy with a big voice and knows how to work a crowd.  He was down on his knees at the edge of the stage giving fist bumps and devil horns to the fans who were singing the words right along with him.  Not even the stinging sweat in his eyes slowed him down for a second.  Kingshifter has a new album out called “26 Tons” and when the badass riff from lead single “Peace Of Mind” came chugging out of guitarist Kink’s Marshall amp drinks were held high in the air and heads were banging.  The song has been getting airplay in Minnesota and on radio stations throughout the midwest.  If you haven’t heard it yet, check it out!  The rhythm section is the ever so cool Derek Ludewick on bass guitar and David Steinbach on drums.  David is an animal behind the kit and had my attention the whole time.  The highlights of the fifteen song set had to be “Peace Of Mind”, “Canonball” which is a killer track from their first album, and “Hole In The Sky” the band’s own version of the classic Black Sabbath song that was included on the Ozzy Osbourne tribute album.  I first became a fan of the band after stumbling upon their Facebook page and hearing their song “Dissonant Frankenstein”.  It was released as a single in April of 2012 but this badass song derserves a spot on the next album.  Check out the grooves and hooks in this song!  After seeing Kingshifter perform live I’m a fan for life. The band is tight!  Kingshifter is a well oiled machine churning out heavy, melodic, groove oriented, in your face metal so if you get the chance to witness a live Kingshifter show, don’t miss it!  Plain and simple – Kingshifter ROCKS!    – (words & photos by Michael Ervin)
