JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE – The 20/20 Experience

Who doesn’t love Justin Timberlake?  This guy can do it all! Everything he touches goes platinum (as it should) and his latest double album release titled The 20/20 Experience will be no different.  This man can write some killer and seriously catchy songs and that is all showcased here on his new set of albums.  The first half of the set kicks off with the fun/catchy song “Pusher Lover Girl”.  This song really shows JT in unfamiliar territory and stepping out of his comfort zone a little here but it pays off in a big way.  The song is huge and riddled with big hooks and lyrics you can’t help but get stuck in your head.  Following that amazing opener is lead single “Suit and Tie”.  If this song doesn’t make you want to get dressed up, go to the club and pull out your best JT moves on the dance floor then I don’t know what will because this song is meant to be a club banger!  There is only one way I can describe this next track and that’s PURE SEX!  This one is titled “Don’t Hold The Wall” and I firmly believe this is sex in the form of a song. I love the lyrics here as well, “I think I heard what you said, he’s not what you thought and you’re fed up and I heard your girlfriend tell you that you could do better, well, I’m the best ever” , JT is for sure the best ever at what he does!  Timbaland’s influence is EVERYWHERE in this set of albums and in NO WAY is that a bad thing.  This is most apparent on “Tunnel Vision”, a song to bob your head to and sing at the top of your lungs in your car!  Next we jump a few tracks ahead, not that the other tracks are bad, these are just the highlights for me because personally I love every song here.  My favorite song on this album and quite possibly my favorite JT song ever is “Mirrors”.  This is an AMAZING song, the beat, the lyrics, the vocals, everything here just makes for one great track and one that will always be a fan favorite.  I can’t tell you how many times I have drove around in my car singing this at the top of my lungs trying to channel my inner JT (hasn’t worked yet, for those of you wondering, I still sound terrible).  The end of this one is by far my favorite part of this whole album “Now you’re the inspiration for this precious song and I just want to see your face light up since you put me on”.  So that really sums up the first half of this set of amazing albums.  The second half is just as good and has so many great songs on it starting with the Bass filled “Gimme What I Don’t Know (I Want).  This one has the same feeling as “Don’t Hold The Wall” from the first album and is a perfect start to the second.  Next is JT’s very own “Thriller” titled “True Blood” and I can already tell you this one is going to be a HUGE live hit!  Can’t wait to see the whole crowd dancing to this one when he hits the BOK Center here in Tulsa!  “Cabaret” sounds to me like a future single and it features the one and only Drake.  Drake kills it here with his verse and fits perfectly on a JT track, something I never really saw coming but LOVE!  My favorite track from the second album is the latest single titled “TKO” and that’s exactly what this song does, knocks me out from beginning to end.  With a killer beat and great flow, this is a call back to his earlier work and just goes to show that he can truly do anything.  Another one of my favorites is the infectiously catchy “Drink You Away”, and I dare you to drive around in your car with this on blast and NOT sing “I can’t driiiiink you awayyyy, I’ve tried Jack, I’ve tried Jim, I’ve tried all of his friends” at the top of your lungs (good luck).  Again, this just shows another side of his musical abilities and this is an acoustic driven track unlike anything else from these albums!  “Amnesia” is my second favorite song and I truly don’t know how to explain this one.  While it is a typical JT track, it’s completely original in its own way and features my favorite vocal performance from him on the second album.  “Only When I Walk Away” features some great guitar work and a very original melody unlike anything I’ve ever heard from JT, just a killer track and I hope to hear this one live!  Lastly is the love song “Not a Bad Thing”.  You can tell from the beginning of this track that it’s going to be a love song and that’s not a bad thing at all.  If you don’t love the very end of this track then your ears need to be checked, his vocals are stellar!!!

I did NOT want these albums to end. I just hope we don’t have as long of a wait between albums next time but I guess that’s what makes his albums so special since they aren’t very frequent. I will always welcome a new Justin Timberlake album with open arms.  Go pick up the complete “The 20/20 Experience” and you will fall in love and have enough great songs to keep you happy for a very long time.          HUGE 5/5   -by David Rader
