Have you ever wondered what it’s like to journey down memory lane with one of your favorite rock stars? If your answer is yes then I would HIGHLY recommend picking up Death Punch’d by Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer. I have spent a good deal of time reading up on my favorite musicians and bands. However, no other book comes as close to being as informative and entertaining as Death Punch’d. The book’s journey starts out before Five Finger Death Punch was even started, back to Jeremy’s data entry days. Taking us through the life of the sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll life style, this book as it ALL! On top of being very entertaining, this book also is meant to help others who struggle with addiction. Jeremy’s way of helping is very original. He doesn’t just go and tell everyone not to do drugs. Instead, he takes us through the crazed life he has lived and bad trips and crazy memories. Some of these memories, while funny and entertaining all share a very distinct message. Being a rock star isn’t all glitz and glamour. Drugs seemed to have played a major role in Jeremy’s life early on and his experiences have made him the man he is today. This book shares some really cool insight on the inner workings of one of metal’s biggest bands today. We get to hear all about the band’s early days of fighting, recording, live shows and even a crazy roadie or two in a very visceral way. Not a lot of musicians like to open up about their past the way that Jeremy has with this book. This is a very transcendent take on a road to recovery type of story. We hear much more of the bad than the good and this is in no way a bad thing. Hearing of Jeremy’s relationship issues with his ex, seeing things turn for the worst and the insight into his band make this my favorite book of the year, easily.
